Understanding PFAS: Well Water Testing for Home Buyers and Sellers

Thursday, March 26, 2026 (9:30 AM - 12:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

With Instructor Sam Haiden of Nova Labs. 3 CEU NH and Maine. This course provides real estate brokers with a comprehensive overview and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) - a class of persistent chemicals increasingly affecting Maine's water supplies and property markets. Participants will learn the history, sources, and health impacts of PFAS, how these compounds enter soil and groundwater, and the latest federal and state regulatory developments. The session also covers testing methods (EPA 533, 537.1, and 1633), how to interpret lab results, and practical steps for clients concerned about contamination. Using Maine case studies such as Fairfield, Arundel, and Brunswick, the lecture connects environmental science with real-world implications for property disclosure, valuation, and liability. This 3-credit continuing education class equips brokers with the knowledge to confidently discuss PFAS testing, mitigation, and disclosure with clients while staying compliant with evolving state regulations.
